Stephanie: Trekking Adventure in the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps

New to Eurohike’s 2025 program, the trekking tour through the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps is perfect for anyone seeking a blend of natural beauty and athletic adventure. When the new route was introduced to the team, Stephanie’s curiosity about high-alpine hiking was immediately sparked, and her brother and his girlfriend were soon inspired by her enthusiasm. What awaited the three of them: a journey through Bavaria, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery, lush green landscapes, and close encounters with local wildlife, all under brilliant blue skies from start to finish.

The stages could hardly be more diverse or impressive — so uniquely beautiful that it’s almost impossible to choose a single favorite. Perhaps it was the hike from Oberstdorf through the Sperrbachtobel Gorge to the Kemptner Hut, the Holzgau suspension bridge spanning the Höhenbachtal Gorge in the Lechtal Valley, or the spectacular Arlberg Trail from St. Anton to Lech am Arlberg. Hidden deep in the mountains, Stephanie discovered her favorite place along the way: during the challenging descent, the trail passes the turquoise Knoppigsee, perfectly nestled in the alpine landscape. Surrounded by complete silence, she experienced a true moment of happiness in the heart of the Lechtal Alps.

Lilly: Exploring Tuscany’s Green Wine Hills and Etruscan Towns

What’s the best part of hiking in Tuscany? Lilly is certain: it’s on foot that you truly uncover the hidden trails and charming, authentic Italian towns. Along quiet paths winding through gentle hills, vineyards, and ancient olive groves, you discover the real Italy.

Even Florence, the starting point, is reason enough to choose a hiking journey through picturesque Tuscany. In its magnificent buildings, narrow streets, and lively squares of the old town, the spirit of the Medici family is still palpable today. From the vibrant city, Lilly and her partner venture into the countryside, where the full charm of the region reveals itself from the very first stage.

With the scent of pine in the air, storybook-perfect trails carry them through the world-famous Chianti wine region to Castellina in Chianti. Over the next few days, they hike from one enchanting Etruscan town to the next: Siena, San Gimignano, and Volterra. They stroll through romantic streets, explore historic sites, stay in traditional country houses, and savor a glass of Chianti at sunset overlooking the rolling vineyards—perhaps at Lilly’s personal favorite spot. The Tenuta Casenuove vineyard is just one of many places that perfectly embody the journey’s title: Picturesque Tuscany.

Helene: Experiencing the Styrian Salzkammergut

The Ausseerland in the Styrian Salzkammergut is a symphony of turquoise mountain lakes, jagged peaks, and the sprawling Tauplitzalm—the largest high-altitude lake plateau in Central Europe. Drawn by this breathtaking blend, Helene set off in early July for Bad Goisern, nestled at the foot of the Predigtstuhl. Her adventure began at the Hütteneckalm, where sweeping views offer a first glimpse of the UNESCO World Heritage Hallstatt-Dachstein region. From Altausseer See, winding trails carried her over the Tressensattel and along sun-drenched high paths to the shimmering Grundlsee. On the Tauplitzalm, Helene embarked on an impressive six-lake hike, enjoying panoramic views of the Totes Gebirge peaks. No alpine hike is complete without a hut stop, and here, culinary delights await. Helene’s personal favorites? The Steirerkasbrot, lovingly baked at the Steinbrecherhütte on the Ödenalm; the rich, comforting Kaspressknödelsuppe at the Grazerhütte, ideal for refueling during a loop hike on the Tauplitzalm; and, for a sweet finale, a warm, homemade Topfenstrudel.

Anna: From Vineyards to the Sea – Mediterranean Variety in Piedmont

While autumn temperatures in Austria were already turning the leaves golden, gentle sunshine in Piedmont and the promise of one last dip in the sea beckoned Anna south for a Mediterranean hiking escape. Together with two friends, she set out from Alba, a town surrounded by rolling green vineyards, hazelnut groves, and fig trees, making her way to the Ligurian coast, where wide-open views of the sea awaited. Medieval villages like Bossolasco, Bardineto, and Albenga, along with the irresistible flavors of Italian cuisine, added an extra touch of Mediterranean charm to their adventure. One place that will stay with Anna for a long time: a viewpoint along the long-distance hiking trail Sentiero Liguria high above Ceriale. From there, the glittering sea, the turtle-shaped island of Isola Gallinara, and the rooftops of Alassio in the distance create a view so striking that it still lingers vividly in her memory.

Thomas and Kathrin: An Alpine Crossing for Young and Grown-Up Adventurers

In 2025, Managing Director Thomas Schmid and his wife Kathrin embarked on a truly special hiking adventure: a Transalp journey along the international long-distance trail E5—together with their whole family. Their daughters, nine-year-old Anna and eleven-year-old Magdalena, were full of excitement and energy. After all, not many children their age can say they’ve crossed the Alps entirely on their own two feet. The route led from the Inn Valley through the Ötztal and over the Timmelsjoch into the Passeier Valley. When the weather turned a bit unpredictable one day, Thomas and Kathrin decided on a spontaneous route change—a stroke of luck as it turned out. That’s how the family discovered their favorite spot: the Passer Gorge in the Passeier Valley, where wild rock formations meet the untamed power of the Passer River. It was the perfect place to pause, breathe, and simply take in the wonder of nature. One thing’s certain: back in the classroom, Magdalena and Anna had plenty of stories to tell—and every reason to be proud.

Isabella: Along the Via Spluga from the Swiss Alps to Italy

Gorges, crystal-clear lakes, ibex, and breathtaking alpine vistas accompanied Isabella on her journey along the Via Spluga. One place that left a lasting impression was the Roffla Gorge, where emerald-green water winds through sculpted rock formations, framed by a dense pine forest.

Equally unforgettable were the loop hike to the Suretta Lakes and the crossing of the Splügen Pass at 2,100 meters with each offering views that linger long after the journey ends. With so many stunning places along the way, it’s almost impossible to choose a favorite. And yet, just before descending toward the Suretta Lakes, a simple bridge of stone and wood appears—the perfect place to pause, breathe deeply, and marvel at the Swiss Alps soaring skyward right before your eyes.

Carolin: A Family Hiking Adventure in Slovenia

Among the new hiking tours for 2025, the Julian Alps & Wild Soča Valley tour quickly became a bestseller. And it’s easy to see why Carolin, her husband, and their nine-year-old daughter were enchanted by the Soča River’s almost unreal shades of blue, the sweeping views in Triglav National Park, and the wild power of the waterfalls along the way. Their family adventure began at the picture-perfect Lake Jasna, and right on the very first stage, the hike up to the Vršič Pass where young Sophie made her parents beam with pride. Her well-earned reward: a mug of hot cocoa and a slice of apple strudel in a cozy mountain hut. Then, during the descent, came a moment none of them will forget: their first glimpse of the turquoise Soča, gleaming so beautifully it left them all speechless.

The following days were filled with variety and fun, sometimes hiking right beside the Soča, sometimes along forest trails or mountain paths. Sophie’s favorite parts? All the chances to splash around, whether in the Soča River or at Lake Jasna, Lake Bohinj, and Lake Bled, and, of course, helping her parents navigate each stage with the Eurohike On Tour app.
