This is how a hiking holiday with Eurohike comes about
Before a Eurohike original tour becomes available for you to book, it goes through a comprehensive development process. Starting with an initial idea, we gradually develop a specific itinerary, which is carefully planned and thoroughly tested on multiple occasions. Once everything is in perfect harmony – logistics, route, accommodation and safety – we add the walking tour to our programme.
Our colleague David from Product Management explains how the route planning process works in detail: from selecting the destinations and planning the route to conducting multiple on-site tests.
Step 1: Preparation
Question: What happens at the start of the planning process?
Answer: For us, it always starts with focusing on an idea. Once we feel that this idea has potential, we begin our research. To do this, we study maps in detail, read reviews of the regions, try out various apps and browse the internet. This gives us an initial feel for the region – always with the aim of discovering Europe’s most beautiful routes for our guests and bringing them to life.
We take an in-depth look at the region:
Map data is being analysed
Testimonials are read
Apps and digital tools are being tested
Online research helps to complete the picture
Step 2: Attention to detail
Question: What comes next after the first idea and the research phase?
Answer: Once an initial itinerary has been drawn up, we move on to the detailed planning stage. Here, we work through the entire trip and take care of all the organisational arrangements – from luggage logistics to on-site support. The aim is always to coordinate everything so that everything runs smoothly once we’re there.
Step 3: On the spot
Question: How exactly do you go about planning a tour?
Answer: After the initial planning stage, we travel to the destination and walk the routes ourselves. We always take a GPS, a camera and a laptop with us so we can fine-tune the details of the tour. Sometimes the reality looks different from what’s marked on the map, and a path might suddenly come to an end or a section might be impassable. In such cases, we need to remain flexible, rethink our approach and find a solution. This ensures that you are always on safe and easily accessible paths.
We also test the local hotels ourselves. We select our partner hotels with great care, ensuring that a sense of well-being and good facilities go hand in hand.
Step 4: The finishing touches
Question: What happens after the trip?
Answer: Once we return from the trip, we collate all our impressions and findings and work them out in detail. This results in the final route descriptions; photographic material is carefully edited; and all the trip details are entered into our website and the Eurohike on Tour and Eurobike on Tour apps. Another important aspect is the ongoing training of our team in customer service. This ensures that we can provide you with expert and comprehensive advice at all times.
Question: Is a trip then complete?
Answer: No. Because our high standards of quality are so important to us, our work does not end with the initial planning of the trip. We are constantly out and about on our walking tours. This allows us to re-evaluate routes, accommodation and additional services directly on site and to continually refine our trips. In this way, we ensure that our guests can enjoy their active holiday in a relaxed, smooth and well-organised manner.
