Hiker on paths between the vineyards in Langhe, with rolling hills in the background

The title ‘leisure hiking’ fits this eight-day hiking tour through Piedmont perfectly! Between Barbaresco and Barolo every day you experience countless opportunities not only to hike in the second biggest region of Italy, but also to taste it. The morning greets you with a freshly brewed Cappuccino, by lunch time the scent of truffle risotto wafts through the alleyways. In the evening, when it’s time for an Aperitivo, the Italians celebrate, and of course you can’t miss the best wines in the world. These will taste wonderful alongside a piece of mature cheese. And between? Many hiking kilometres, around 95 in total, through exquisite Piedmont with its rolling hills and vineyards.

The circular hiking tour through Piedmont travels through the most enchanting places in the region. For example, to Cravazana, the centre of hazelnut and chestnut production. Or to Treiso, where the Romans like to flee to from the smoggy capital city for a holiday. Wherever you like on the eight-day hiking tour: stop, treat yourself to a break and enjoy the leisureliness of the region. Because enjoyment is the emphasis on this hiking week with Eurohike!

  • World Heritage region of Langhe-Roero: Considered worthy of special protection by UNESCO, the Langhe-Roero region presents itself with a mixture of wine terraces and gentle hills. Tip: The grapes for the best and most expensive wines in the world grow in Langhe-Roero!
  • Culinary delights: Indulgent highpoints await you in Piedmont every day. Whether it's exquisite wine from the region, fine Alba truffles, creamy risotto or a piece of "Nocciola di Piemonte" - in the restaurants and markets you'll feast like the locals. A wine tasting is included in the hiking tour!
  • Mediterranean Middle Ages: In many sleepy villages of Piedmont, time seems to have stood still. Places like Alba, Cravanzana, Treiso or Serralunga d'Alba seem to be from the Middle Ages.

The enjoyable starting point of your hiking tour in North Italy is the truffle capital of Alba. After you arrive you should make your way to a Trattoria to try some fresh truffle pasta! So beings your hiking week, which will bring cosy but also enjoyable hours on the following days. Every day you will hike between 12 and 17 kilometres through hilly vineyards and forests.

You have an appetite for a piece of Italy, for exquisite wine and aromatic chestnuts? The hiking tour through Piedmont can be booked as early as the beginning of April and is worth seeing until the end of October!

You comfortably walk along the river Tanaro to Barbareso, the first ‚wine metropolis’ of your walking tour. In Barbaresco everything revolves around splendid wine, we suggest you sample ‚Barolo’s little brother’ in the Enoteca Regionale located in the converted church San Donato. The route leads you through the typical landscape of the Langhe region along vast vineyards into picturesque Neive. You spend the night in Treiso, situated in the centre of the Langa del Barbaresco, this village has already been popular as a holiday destination by the Romans.

On your way to the hamlet of Canta you walk along the Rocche di Sette Fratelli, a deep gorge situated between soft vineyards. Then you continue towards San Bovo enjoying marvellous panoramic views and finally reach the flower village of Castino, located onto top of a hill between the Bormida and Belbo river valleys. In the Middle Ages it was an affluent focal point with three monasteries and today you can marvel at the first truffle grove for tourists in this region. The route leads you along the ridge of a hill in between chestnut- and hazelnut trees to Cravanzana.

From the heart of hazelnut growing, the route takes you on slightly hilly terrain through the upper Belbo-river valley, well-known for potato growing via Feisoglio to Niella Belbo. The architectural style of this medieval village was shaped by Napoleon’s march through, hence the byname ‚dei francesi’. After a range of hills with marvellous views onto sleepy little villages and old ruins, you reach San Benedetto with the same-named lake. A short transfer takes you to the well-known flower villlage of Bossolasco.

Hotel example: Da Fabiana

Today the terrain is initially hilly, and accompanied by hazelnut groves you reach the little village of Serravalle Langhe. Then onwards through the Bric della Vacca and vineyards to Roddino. After a short rest at the Church of St. Mary your next Day Finish is the medieval farming village of Sinio. Wine is back! The path snakes uphill to the village and the medieval castle of Serralunga d'Alba.

Hotel example: Le Arcate

Today’s route leads you through light hazelnut groves and wild forests into the magically situated Monforte d´Alba. The impressive campanile and Scarampi palace can already be seen from afar. In medieval Monforte we recommend a stroll through the little alleyways and a snack in the numerous restaurants and wine stores. You continue your tour with ecstasizing views into the valley until you reach your day finish, the world-famous wine village of Barolo, where a marvellous wine-tasting awaits you.

Walking through the vineyards of the best wines in the world you continue your tour to the idyllic village La Morra, best-know as the ‚balcony of Langhe’.
