Hiker on the coast with flowers along the way

Steep Coast of Brittany

Ragged cliffs and rural life

7 Days / 6 Nights
Walking
Hiker on the coast with flowers along the way

A saying goes that in Brittany the sea and the country are enamoured with each other. According to the rhythm of the tides the sea penetrates deeply into the country. The 350 km long coastline “„Côtes d’Armor“ stretches in the north of Brittany. The „Côtes d’Armor“ is home of sea birds, wild flowers and a varied and legendary history. You walk from East to West, following the ancient customs paths from Goëlo coast to the pink granite coast, the 'Côte de Granit Rose'. You are mainly following the coast but that does not mean that you won’t catch a glimpse of rural life: on the sea you find artichoke fields, a lighthouse between a village and the cabbage field, tractors on the fields, seaweed used as fertilizer and many other unusual views. Little coves invite to swim.

The coastal hiking holiday in Brittany takes you from East to West along the scenic Côtes-d’Armor coastline. There are a total of 350 kilometres of coastline to discover here. On our seven-day hiking holiday you experience 74 kilometres of what are probably the most beautiful sections in this area in five stages. Starting from Paimpol you explore the flower island of Bréhat, hike to Tréguir, Port-Blanc, continue to the holiday resort of Perros-Guirec and end your active break with a circular hike on the ‘Sept Îles’ (seven islands). This archipelago is considered the oldest bird sanctuary in the country.

  • Natural paradise in Brittany: The coastal landscape between Goëlo Coast and the pink granite coast is home to numerous species of birds and wild flowers such as orchids, poppies and heather. A particularly exotic floral splendor awaits you on the island of Bréhat with mimosa, hydrangea and laurel and eucalyptus trees. A wonderful paradise for nature lovers.
  • Endless coastal panoramas: Fantastic coastal hikes await you every day. The circular walk on the island of Bréhat and the excursion to the "Sept Îles" provide even more variety. More information and tour suggestions for island hiking throughout Europe.
  • Hiking for connoisseurs: When hiking in France, one thing is guaranteed – enjoyment will not be neglected. Not only scenic, but also culinary you can look forward to the excellent cuisine and the wonderful Breton wines such as Cabernet, Pinot or Merlot.

This hiking holiday is assigned our level of hiking ‘Walking’. With a basic level of fitness, the daily stages of 9 to 17 kilometres and walking times of around 2.5 to 7 hours will be a pleasant experience. The route takes you on nice country roads, as well as dunes and side roads, which is why this active holiday is also ideal for hiking with a dog.

Itinerary at a glance

Picturesque lighthouses, expansive fields, and the seemingly endless sea accompany you while coastal hiking in Brittany. In between, explore the island of Bréhat, and with a bit of luck, you might even spot penguins on the "Sept Îles" (Seven Islands).
Day
01
Arrival in Paimpol

You have the choice between visiting the Beaufort Abbey (13th century) and a round trip on flower island Bréhat, which can be reached by a short boat ride. There exotic plants from all over the world grow as they once had been brought by the sailors: hydrangeas in splendid colours, laurel, mimosas and eucalyptus trees and many more.

By taxi to the tip of the peninsula Sillon de Talbert. Here you walk along the lovely coast to  Tréguier on river Jaudy, where you will stay overnight.

Tour around the Plougrescant peninsula, a treat for all nature lovers. Wild flowers as erica, gorse, orchids, poppy and sea-cabbage can be admired along the route. In Port-Blanc you can take a bath in the sea, walk along the sandy beach or enjoy a sun-set from the hotel terrace.

Walk along a coastal path through many pretty settlements with lovely gardens to Perros-Guirec. The gardens in Brittany flourish all year long with flowers as e.g. mimosa, camellias, geranium and many more. Overnight in Perros-Guirec, a well known holiday village in Northern Bretagne with picture-book harbour.

Opposite of Perros-Guirec the oldest bird sanctuary of France, the „Seven Islands“ lay. Here penguins, gannets and other birds found undisturbed breeding grounds. You should visit the island quite early in the morning to enjoy your walk along the impressive coast of “pink granite” with bizarre rock formations. We recommend to walk to Ploumanach.
