Picos de Europa

Short transfer then start hiking through the Cares Gorge, which separates the Massif Central from the Eastern Massif of the Picos de Europa. It surprises with its diverse flora and fauna. You hike through narrow gorges and always follow the water channel. You can take a refreshing bath in the Río Cares.

Today you start your tour to Liébana with an ascent on an old mule track. There, the idyllic high valley of Caben Remona awaits you. Here you choose whether you want to take the descent to Espinama or continue hiking on the unique high trail to Vega de Liordes. From there you take the descent to Fuente Dé, where a transfer will take you to your hotel where you spend the night.

Ascent to the Massif Central via the Aliva Pass. The trail takes you to Sotres over a long glacial moraine through the Duj river valley, the highest mountain village in the Picos de Europa. Here you will spend the night and discover breathtaking views of the mountains.

A short transfer takes you to the starting point of today's hike at 1,300 metres. You march through stony karst and crater landscapes up to an altitude of 2,215 metres and enjoy the fantastic panorama over the Cantabrian coast. The descent takes you back to Sotres.

Todays hike up into the central massif of the Picos to the Pico Urriellu, spectacular landscapes await you. You will hike through the valley of the Duje River across pastures to the Pandebano Pass. The trail leads you to the mountain hut Vega de Urriellu, surrounded by a magnificent rock and mountain landscape.

Enjoy the fascinating mountain scenery once more before you start the descent to Poncebos through a gorge. Alternatively, you can use a funicular railway. From Poncebos, take the bus to Arenas de Cabrales.
