Hikers with a view of Lake Reschen in Italy

Hiking for the whole family - this tour is dedicated to adventures for big and small shoes. The exciting South Tyrol is ideal for a tour with children. Well rested and strengthened with a regional breakfast, you start a new adventure day after day between the Lake Resia and the Mediterranean garden city of Merano.

The Lake Resia is worth seeing and experiencing. It is widely known and a popular photo opportunity because of the church that protrudes from it in the middle. It is popular for sailing and windsurfing because of its first-class thermals. There are opportunities for swimming along the route in addition to the Lake Resia , for example, in the Naturno adventure pool or the thermal baths in Merano.

South Tyrol also includes the numerous palaces and castles, several of which can be seen along the tour. In the famous Juval Castle, which is owned by Reinhold Messner, the “Messner Mountain Museum” can be visited. Panorama and adventure trails, wooden paths and a suspension bridge round off the hikes, which perfectly combine the historical and scenic treasures of the region.

  • The hikes mostly lead along so-called Waalwege. The former irrigation pipes were used to irrigate the agricultural areas. They are particularly suitable for families, as cooling water for splashing around is always in the immediate vicinity.
  • Fragrant apple orchards and fertile grapevines along the way: Thanks to the more than 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, grapes and, above all, apples thrive in South Tyrol. While the parents can try a glass of the excellent wines at the stop, the kids can enjoy apple pie and strudel. A “win-win situation” - right?
  • Glittering lakes and massive mountains: From the Ortler Alps to the Texel Group and from the Lake Resia to Lake Haider - the views are truly good here and the unique landscape invites you to go on many adventures.
  • Adventure hiking trails with lots of information about the legendary world of South Tyrol: the ‘Hexenhöhle’ (Witches' Cave), ‘Teufelsplatte’ (Devil's Plate), ‘Schalensteine’ (Shell Stones) - you can find out the history of the region in a particularly exciting way on so-called legend trails. These are available, for example, on the stage from Partschins or on the Sonnensteig. The sculptures and shapes make hiking an exciting experience not only for children.

Due to the different lengths of the tours (seven to 16 km), the leisure hike is suitable for all age and fitness levels. A trip on the Val Venosta Valley Railway from Sluderno to Kastelbell lessens the route. Further shortcuts using public transport are possible.

Hikers with a view of Lake Reschen in Italy

Lots of sun, walks past nicely scented apple orchards and vineyards and magnificent views of the high peaks in the Ötztal and Ortler Alps. In South Tyrol the sun shines for over 300 days of the year! It is not just the impressive views of South Tyrol’s highest peaks but also the characteristic irrigation channels that make this walking holiday in South Tyrol a wonderful family tour. ‘Waalwege’, or irrigation channel paths are popular family paths because they go alongside the rivulets and are never really steep. Previously and to a smaller extent still today, they served the purpose of irrigating South Tyrol’s fields. They provide lots of fun for children because the irrigation channels and the great waterways gurgle and turn the walk into an entertaining water game. When you aren’t walking along the shady paths, there is a lot of adventure in store for you: fixed-rope routes, lakes, adventure paths and exciting museums. Family walking in South Tyrol - an amusing walking holiday for all shoe sizes.
