From Füssen to Merano

It’s worth wandering through the Old Town and visiting the historic buildings and nice street cafes. You could also plan a visit the royal castles on your arrival.

At the thundering Lach falls you cross the Lech Gorge and hike over the Alpenrosenweg to the Alpsee. From the viewpoint you have the best view of Neuschwanstein. Past the rock faces up to Sternschanze, where you cross the border to Tyrol and arrive in Pflach. Optionally continue through the bird sanctuary, up to the observation tower in the Lech floodplains to Reutte and by train to Ehrwald.

A wonderful alpine tour awaits you: on the Alte-Mühl-Steig you leave the valley and sail by gondola to Ehrwalder Alm. Take the ‘Koatigen Weg’ to Igelsee, where the highest rocky peaks are reflected. Leisurely hike through the Gaistal to countless alpine pastures, where you can take a break with buttermilk and Kaiserschmarrn (small pieces of pancake dough). Continuing down the valley, you reach the Kneipp spa by the rushing Salzbach stream.

Along the Weidachsee through secluded forests and moorland you travel along the Way of St. James to the crossing at Buchner Höhe. The view at the Ropferstubm is absolutely fantastic. Below the rock faces of the Hohen Munde is the green Inn Valley. After a visit to the pilgrimage church in the historic market town of Telfs you take the trail on a panoramic ride through the Ötztal and Pitztal Alps to Landeck.

Transfer to the Resia Pass and by cable car to the Mutzkopf, where you begin your tour to the Schwarzsee and Grünsee. Climb steadily to the Dreiländerstein, where the borders between Italy, Austria and Switzerland meet. The high-altitude trail takes you to the popular Rescheralm, where delicious South Tyrolian delicacies tempt you in. Finally, the huge Lake Resia awaits, and you hike along the shores to your destination.

Admire the sunken church of Graun on the bus journey to St. Valentin. Snow-covered mountains are reflected in the Haidersee. You travel along its shores and into valley to the tranquil village of Burgeis. Over colourful meadows and sunny mountain slopes you pass Churburg Castle in Schluderns and travel by train to Silandro.

Hotel example: Goldene Rose

The Vinschgau Railway takes you to Naturns, from where a wonderful panoramic trail leads up to the rippling streams of the Waalweg. Descend through the forest to the Schlundensteinen and continue towards Algund. A stop at a typical farm inn is of course also part of the tour. The final highlight is the Tappeiner Promenade: as if walking through a botanical garden, you reach the cathedral in the centre of Merano.
