Trail marking on the Gosaukamm with hiker and mountains in the background

The “white gold” plays an important part in the history of Bavaria and Austria, more precisely the Salzkammergut and Salzburger Land. The Salzalpensteig, which traces the origins of salt production - in the truest sense of the word - is dedicated to this story. On this 6-day tour with Eurohike you will experience everything the Alps have to offer: panoramas “en másse”, hospitality and culinary delicacies, culture, nature and much more. Come with us - this tour will be unforgettable!

The first stage leads from Golling over the Pass Lueg to Abtenau, past alpine pastures, high mountain cliffs and a waterfall. After 23 km you will have earned a nice break. Try Kaiserschmarrn, Bauernkrapfen or apple strudel and indulge in dreamy Austrian dessert.

The way to the charming Annaberg leads over the Tennengebirge. Dachstein Glacier, Lake Gosausee and the “Steinerne Indianer” wait around Gosau and Bad Goisern. Lush alpine pastures and green forests give their visitors clear air, relaxation for body and mind and still an active holiday.

  • Mighty Tennengebirge: Rocky sections and incredibly beautiful panoramas - the Tennengebirge has it all. Climb the stony sections to feel the unique feeling of happiness at lofty heights!
  • Impressive Gosaukamm & Dachstein Mountains: The characteristic Gosaukamm forms the border between the federal states of Upper Austria and Salzburg. Hiking in the lofty heights is challenging here, but very well developed. But the views from below are also rewarding.
  • Magnificent mountain hikes on old salt paths: Evidence of salt mining in the Salzkammergut has been found as early as 2000 BC. Over time, an extraordinary trading network developed, which took the “white gold” in all directions. The walks in this area often lead along these ancient trade routes.
  •  Salzkammergut Lakes & World Heritage Hallstatt-Dachstein: The charming Hallstatt, the oldest salt mine in the world and the crystal-clear lakes in the area make this region one of the most extraordinary in Austria. Combine your holiday with a longer stay at one of the beautiful lakes of the Salzkammergut around Attersee, Mondsee and the likes, try a new water sport and enjoy pure bathing pleasure.

Some of the stages lead up high, and fascinating views await along the good high-altitude trails. This requires a firm grip, surefootedness and you should be free from giddiness. Due to the different stage lengths between eleven and 23 km, there are plenty of opportunities for breaks. Some sections are covered by cable car, the tickets are included when travelling with Eurohike.
