After a short bus ride, it’s well worth taking a detour to the UNESCO-listed Neustift Abbey, whose impressive grounds are well worth a visit. Following the Wine Trail, the path leads you through vineyards up into the nature reserve and on through shady forests to Elvas. Following the Archaeological Hiking Trail, you’ll reach a summit offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The descent takes you to Brixen, where the imposing cathedral and arcades invite you to explore.

Today, you’ll follow the popular Chestnut Trail through South Tyrol’s diverse cultural landscape. First, you’ll ascend via the Europaweg to the little church of St. Cyprian, which sits high above the valley. The trail winds its way through fields and forests to the famous Feldthurns Castle, the prince bishop’s residence, which is well worth a visit. Passing the imposing Säben Monastery, you’ll reach Klausen, a small artists’ town. Enjoy a break at the medieval Tinneplatz before taking the train to Bolzano.

In the morning, you’ll take a bus and train to the Mendel Pass. Enjoy the mountain panorama before taking a leisurely stroll across the high plateaus toward the Non Valley the linguistic and provincial border. Hike through adventurous gorges and idyllic little villages to the Sanctuary of Saint Romedio, then past two small, sparkling lakes to Coredo, where you’ll experience Italian hospitality right in the heart of Trentino.

During a short transfer, you can admire the stunning scenery of the Non Valley. You’ll then hike through secluded forests up to the panoramic viewpoint near the picturesque little church of San Tommaso. The trail continues into the Priori Nature Park and across the wetlands of a karst lake to Andalo, and on to Molveno, situated at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites and nestled beside the turquoise blue, sparkling alpine lake of the same name.

To wrap up your week of hiking, you’ll walk through the unspoiled meadows of the Lomason Valley. Then you’ll climb up to the Rifugio Monte San Pietro, where you’ll be treated to a breathtaking view of Lake Garda. The descent takes you through winding alleys and under arched gateways, past low stone walls to the Castel von Tenno. Hiking through olive groves and Mediterranean cypress vegetation, you’ll cover the final kilometers until you reach the shores of Lake Garda.

The route follows well-maintained hiking trails and paths, as well as sections of forest tracks, gravel tracks and woodland paths. As the walking time is between 3 and 5 hours and there are some fairly challenging ascents and descents, you should be in reasonably good physical condition.
