Picturesque coastal village of Porto Azzuro

The Etruscan coast - as the region is called between Pisa and Piombino – not only offers on top of stupendous coastal sections, cultural highlights and villages worth visiting, also a marvellous hiking area. Varied hiking tours both inland and on the coast make this holiday an experience. The routes lead you through pine groves and deciduous forest, Mediterranean macchia as well as via wild high-plateaus and white sandy beaches. En route you always have the option of jumping into the cool water and linger a bit in the sunny bays. You spend the nights in Pisa and in lovely coastal towns, where you can truly relax after each hiking tour or explore the historic centre. The ferry takes you across to Elba, the island with the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, enchanting diversity of vegetation and amazing hiking paths. Here you spend two days on the sea and enjoy coastal walking at its best.

Tuscany – a longed for destination and hiking paradise for all connoisseurs. You can experience the picturesque region in Italy even more intensively by foot. In eight days your self-guided hiking holiday takes you to the most beautiful places in Tuscany. Starting from Pisa, you hike through pine forests, the Mediterranean maquis or along stunning sandy beaches to Castagneto and finally to the island of Elba. This sounds like pure bliss and an amazing break in Tuscany.

  • Pisa’s landmark: No other leaning building in the world is as well-known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which is also the town’s landmark. The free-standing bell tower began to lean 12 years after the foundation stone was laid in 1173 and is now a popular photo opportunity worldwide.
  • Picture-perfect coastal hiking: Wonderful routes and coastal paths await you on this hiking holiday in Tuscany. You should definitely enjoy the fantastic views during a short hiking break.
  • Home of the sweet Cantuccini: Did you know that the Italian almond biscuit ‘Cantuccini’ comes from Prato in Tuscany? The speciality of the region consists of butter, sugar, flour, eggs and almonds and is often served with a glass of Vin Santo dessert wine.
  • Time-out on the island of Elba: The final two hiking stages of this holiday are a highlight in themselves – a picturesque coastal tour and a summit hike on the island of Elba situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

This hiking holiday is assigned our level of difficulty ‘Walking’ and ensures a varied active experience in Tuscany with diverse hiking trails. In between you always have the opportunity for a relaxing break on one of the beaches or a wonderful refreshment in the bays. With a basic fitness level and surefootedness, you can fully enjoy the daily stages on the Etruscan Coast with a walking time of up to five hours.
