Walking tour along the Moselle Trail from Perl to Trier through Germany's wine-growing regions. The route covers approximately 61 km over 4 days with daily distances of 16-23 km. Highlights include views across three countries (Germany, France, Luxembourg), the Nitteler Felsen nature reserve with limestone cliffs, vineyards, and Trier's historic old town. Good basic fitness required. Includes wine tasting and accommodation in 3-star hotels with breakfast and luggage transfer.

You start your five-day hiking tour on the Moselsteig in Perl in the border triangle of Germany-France-Luxembourg. The first day's stage takes you through picturesque vineyards and forests to the wine village of Palzem. You can look back on your first day of hiking with a delicious glass of Elbling wine from the region. On the following day, the route leads you on scenic paths through beautiful nature to your next stage destination Nittel on the Upper Moselle. The next day also has a fantastic active experience in store for you: the hike through the Nitteler Fels nature reserve in Rhineland-Palatinate. After a restful night in Nittel, you can look forward to your last hiking stage: the hike to the cultural city of Trier, which is home to no less than nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Our hiking tour along the Moselsteig takes you from Perl via Nittel to Trier in five days and four nights. The daily stages of about four to six hours lead along good hiking paths and are easily manageable with a little basic fitness. The longer sections can also be shortened by public transport. Due to the good routing, this hiking tour is also wonderfully suitable for hiking with a dog.

Itinerary at a glance

Start with a view of France and Luxembourg. Enjoy the tranquility of the Nitteler Fels nature reserve as well as the lively old town in Trier. Look forward to idyllic panoramas and toast with a Moselle wine.

You set off on your week’s walking holiday from the small wine growing district, Perl in the Saarland and you then walk along the river Mosel, which is only separated from the Luxemburg’s border town, Schengen, by the river Mosellel itself.

The start of your week’s walk gives you a view across the border triangle to Luxembourg and France. Your route takes you from the delightful wine-growing region via quaint forests and extensive fields in the Palatinate wine village, Palzem, which welcomes you with famous wineries and extensive vineyards. There you will meet again the river Moselle and enjoy a glass of the best Elbling wines.

After visiting the double towered Helfant cathedral, you walk along the paths offering great views and short but steep ascents along the flourishing meadows and forests. Enjoy the view of the river Mosel before you reach the next wine district by a crossroads

With an impressive panorama of the Moselle and the unique limestone cliffs on the Moselle and Saar, you hike on varied paths through the Nitteler Felsen nature reserve, rich in species, to Wasserliesch. From there you take the train to the Moselle metropolis of Trier.
