Thanks to its attractions, its souvenir and watch shops, the beautiful lakeside setting and the nearby excursion mountains of the Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn, Lucerne is the perfect starting point for your hike round Lake Lucerne.

Today’s leg leads via Horw peninsula to Mount Pilatus. Steep passage over the Renggpass, the only overland link to Obwalden in the 1860s before the construction of the Brunigstrasse.

By bus to Dallenwil and with the cable car up to Niederrickenbach. This leg leads on the well-known “wildlife path» on the mountain flanks of Schwalmis and Oberbauen. You reach Niederbauen and go by cable car down to the same placed village. 

Down towards the shores of Lakes Lucerne and through the refreshingly cool gorge on the Urnersee lake - along the lakeshore road to Risleten and a climb through the attractive Risletenschlucht gorge. Crossing of the Stützberg along the historic path to Volligen and arrival in Rütli, with views down to the Urnersee lake. From here by ship to Brunnen.

Another cable car brings you up on Mount Urmiberg. From here you continue via Gätterlipass on well-developed trails towards Rigi Kaltbad.

Steep descend towards Seebodenalp, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Swiss mountains. Take a break in the mountain hut. If you want, you can shorten today’s hike by cable car down to Küssnacht am Rigi. From there you get back to Luzern by ship.

Thanks to its sights, souvenir and watch shops, its attractive lakeside location, and the nearby mountains – Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn – Lucerne is an ideal starting point for your walking holiday around Lake Lucerne.

This stage leads across the Horw Peninsula to the foot of Mount Pilatus. You’ll cross the Rengg Pass which was the only land route to Obwalden until the Brünig Road was built in the 1860s. The picturesque mountain landscape of Central Switzerland unfolds before you here. From the pass, a steep descent takes you down to the shores of Lake Alpnach.

In the morning, take the train to Dallenwil and then by cable car up to Niederrickenbach. You’ll walk along the famous ‘Wildlife Trail’ along the mountain slopes of Schwalmis and Oberbauen to Niderbauen and the mountain station of the same name. A cable car ride down into the valley to Emmetten wraps up today’s hike.

Head down to the lakeshore and through the refreshingly cool gorge to Lake Uri. Follow the lakeside road to Risleten and ascent through the picturesque Risleten Gorge. Cross the Stützberg via the historic trail to Volligen and arrive at the Rütli, with sweeping views down to Lake Uri. A comfortable boat ride takes you to Brunnen.

By cable car up to the Urmiberg. Continue on to the Gätterli Pass and follow well-maintained trails past Rigi Scheidegg to Kaltbad. The hiking trails on the Rigi are among the most beautiful in all of Switzerland. Lake Lucerne sparkles before you, while Mount Pilatus rises proudly behind it. In good weather, you can spot the Alpine peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau on the horizon.

A steep descent to Seebodenalp, one of the most beautiful scenic viewpoints in the Swiss Pre-Alps. Treat yourself to a break – the steep descent can be a bit hard on the knees. If you wish, you can shorten the final few kilometres by taking the cable car to Küssnacht at the foot of Mount Rigi. From here, you'll get back to Lucerne by boat, the grand finale of your hiking week.
