Make the most of your time by embarking on extensive exploration tours and savoring the vibrant atmosphere of the local cafes. The destination of your first hike is the fishing village of Cabanas. Along the way, you'll pass charming villages, and on the way back, you'll once again cross interesting salt marshes.

Fragrant orchards accompany you the next day towards the fishing village of Fuzeta. Via the lagoon and through the Ria Formosa Nature Park you finally reach Tavira again. The third and final stage takes you via Santa Luzia where colorful fishing boats adorn the lagoon, and onwards to the island of Tavira. • Stroll through the old town of Tavira: The jewel of the Algarve captivates with its historic charm. The town enchants with picturesque alleys, a medieval castle, and the Roman bridge with its seven arches. Enjoy the ambiance with the numerous cafes, bars, and eateries, whether indulging in fresh fish or sweet Pasteis de Nata.
  • Flamingos at the Ria Formosa nature reserve: The expansive nature park comprises an impressive coastal ecosystem of lagoons, islands, and salt marshes. Itinerary at a glance

The Algarve is a great place to visit, from its tranquil villages to its imposing coastline and fragrant almond trees. See flamingos in the Ria Formosa Nature Park and fall in love with the coastal town of Tavira.

Arrival at Faro and transfer to Tavira. This little coastal town has a very long and beautiful sandy beach to offer, the town centre is full of interesting buildings and is home of a fish market, which we highly recommend.

A comfortable walk along the coast, starting in the old village of Velha, takes you along deserted paths to the charming fishing village Cabanas. There fishing is still in full swing and an ideal lunch place to enjoy observing the busy life on the water. Through several salt pans, in which numerous wild animals dwell, you walk back to Tavira.

To the West of Tavira you find the fishing village Fuzeta, the starting point of your tour. You walk through salt pans, past little villages with colorful houses and gardens. We recommend you enjoy a nice break in one of the little cafés along the banks of the quietly flowing river Ria.

For the finale of your week of walking along the Algarve, you discover the island of Tavira, home of the region’s most beautiful sandy beaches and the extensive nature reserve Ria Formosa. It is true holiday bliss to amble along these beaches and marvel at little fishing villages like Santa Luzia, where countless fishing boats are bobbing gently up and down on the waters of the canal.
