Hiking couple taking a rest on the Krstenica Alm with huts and mountains in the background

On this hiking tour you can discover three countries in just one week: Austria, Italy and Slovenia. The starting point is the city of Villach in Austria. Through grandiose mountain and natural landscapes, you will travel to the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy. A special moment for believers is the visit to the Italian pilgrimage site Monte Lussari. The Slovenian part of the route takes you to the famous ski resort of Kranjska Gora. During the hike you will see historical places and a multifaceted landscape, where an enchanting mountain panorama and dreamy lakes alternate with green meadows, dense spruce forests and mystical peat moors. A highlight for nature lovers is the large Triglav National Park. This hiking tour along the Alpe-Adria-Trail ensures plenty of enjoyable hiking moments for both advanced hikers and beginners with a good level of fitness.

From Villach you go to Dobratsch and to Feistritz an der Gail. In Italy, the Carnic Ridge with its beautiful alpine landscape and the stage destination of Camporosso awaits you. You hike to Monte Lussari and experience the view of the mountain range of the Julian Alps. The route continues to the Weissenfels Lakes and via the Slovenian ski resort of Kranjska Gora back to Villach.

  • Dobratsch Nature Park: This well-known region in Carinthia covers around 7,250 hectares and is located in an idyllic lake district that is a protected nature reserve.
  • Monte Lussari: The 1,790-metre-high Luschariberg is a popular pilgrimage destination in the Julian Alps. There you can feel the magical atmosphere of the pilgrimage church and stop in small pubs and shops.
  • Kranjska Gora: The fashionable ski resort is known as the Kitzbühel of Slovenia. It is located in the northwest of the country and is surrounded by mountains and glacial lakes. Kranjska Gora is considered the gateway to the Triglav National Park, which invites you to explore the local flora and fauna.

This beautiful hike through three countries is assigned to our hiking type 'mountain hiking' and is perfectly manageable with a good basic level of fitness. You need a bit of extra stamina for the last stage, so it is really enjoyable. The route leads over wonderful mountain and hiking paths that are well marked. This means that you can find your way quickly and easily everywhere and enjoy the hiking trip to the full.
