Isabella discovers the most beautiful spots around Italy’s largest lake.

We all know and love it: Italy’s largest lake, Lake Garda. Isabella from Product Management knows the region like the back of her hand thanks to her work in hotel procurement, and yet she’s always discovering new places. If you’d like to know what her favourite spot is, then be sure to read on.

Isabella says:

The months of anticipation for our Around Lake Garda tour have been building, and the promise of new discoveries and unforgettable moments makes the wait feel endless. Joining me once again are my dear friends, who have already shared in incredible journeys from Reschen to Kaltern, Kaltern to Lake Garda, Lake Garda to Venice, and Verona to Lake Garda.

We begin our journey with a drive from Salzburg to Riva del Garda, using the time on the road to review our planned routes for the coming days in detail through the Eurobike & Eurohike On Tour app.

Arrival at Italy’s Most Beautiful Lake: Lake Garda

Riva welcomes us with brilliant blue skies and warm summer temperatures—the perfect start to our day. After a brief stroll through the charming Old Town, we settle into one of the cozy lakeside cafés. We sit back and enjoy the gentle breeze off the water, soaking in the breathtaking scenery where the mountains meet the lake. This moment feels like a true escape from the everyday.

Let’s Get Started! From Riva to Limone

Our hike from Riva del Garda to Limone begins with a transfer through rocky tunnels that brings us straight to the trailhead. Instantly, the lake opens up before us—our first of many stunning views. The trail leads us onto the Sentiero del Sole (Sun Trail), where sweeping vistas of shimmering water and rugged mountain scenery unfold at every turn.

We continue onto the Ciclopedonale Panoramica, a 2.1-mile (3.5 km) path hugging the western shoreline—an unforgettable highlight for anyone who loves active travel! Walking above the sparkling lake, it almost feels like floating along the water’s edge. After a warm day on the trail, a detour to the Sopino Waterfall offers the perfect refresh and a peaceful moment to pause. The day winds down with a delicious dinner at a cozy trattoria before we settle in at the elegant Villa Dirce, replaying the day’s best moments as we drift off to sleep.

Bringing the Rain: It Doesn’t Get Any Wetter!

With rain along for the ride, we set off on our second stage from Limone to Gardone, starting with an exciting speedboat ride to Maderno. Before hitting the trail, we ease into the day with a cappuccino and a freshly baked croissant at a small lakeside café. Dressed head to toe in rain gear, we begin our hike toward the Valle delle Cartiere—the Valley of Paper Mills. Today, this valley is a fascinating open-air museum where visitors can marvel at the remains of old paper mills and learn about the history and art of papermaking. From there, we take on a challenging climb into the untouched forests of western Lake Garda. The long-distance Bassa Via del Garda trail leads us through sparsely populated woodlands as we steadily hike up and down the rugged terrain.

By early afternoon, we reach the beautiful town of Gardone—a true gem known for its elegant villas and lush gardens. A standout highlight is the André Heller Botanical Garden (Giardino Botanico Fondazione André Heller), a botanical masterpiece that enchants visitors with its vast variety of plants and artistic sculptures. After an inspiring visit, we head back to our accommodations at Villa Sofia to freshen up. Changed and dry, we end the day at a cozy osteria with a glass of red wine and delicious seafood pasta—the perfect finish!

Off to Desenzano: Soaking Up the Sun

We wake up full of anticipation for our final day. With only 9 miles (15 kilometers) left until we reach our destination, Desenzano, we’re making sure to savor every step along the beautiful Lungolago (lakeside promenade) of Salò. This charming town turned out to be another major highlight of the tour for me.

Feeling motivated, we continue our trek south. As Salò fades behind us, the flat landscape gradually shifts into a gentle climb through the sleepy village of Cisano, surrounded by stunning olive groves. At the highest point, Punta Sasso, we pause for photos to celebrate conquering the ascent. Our reward? One final boat ride from Dusano to Desenzano, gliding across the sparkling waters of Lake Garda.

Conclusion:

Another incredible journey comes to a close. From the unique charm of each lakeside town to the ever-changing landscapes along the way, this Eurohike tour around Lake Garda was exceptional and truly unforgettable.

My Favorite Spot: Punta Sasso

Punta Sasso is a true hidden gem! From this vantage point, breathtaking views stretch across Lake Garda and the surrounding mountains. The serene atmosphere and fresh mountain air make it a dreamlike spot—perfect for a pause, a few photos, and a quiet moment to clear your head and simply take it all in.
