Vielha – Bossòst
You leave Vielha on one of the old hiking paths towards Vilac. Surrounded by a view onto the high mountains you hike through a number of smaller villages with beautiful Romanesque churches. From the village of Vilamos you get a glance at the highest mountain peaks of the Pyrenees, Mount Aneto (3404m) and Mount Maladeta (3308m). At the end of the day you reach Bossòst, a little village and home of one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches of the 12th century, the church ‚Asunción de María‘.
Bossòst – Bagergue
The mountain taxi takes you far into the ‚Val Torán‘ to today’s start of the hiking tour. Today some level of stamina is required, but in return you will be rewarded with a spectacular and unique ambience of the Liat-plateau with breathtaking views into Aigüestortes National Park. The Unyola-waterfall is a special highlight of today’s hiking tour, featuring a glowing organge play of colour. Alternatively it is possible to cut this stage short.
Bagergue – Espot
Onwards into the next valley: you hike through fairy-tale woodland, past small waterfalls and emerald-green lakes to the mountain hut ‚Saboredo‘. After a hearty break you keep ascending and reach the crossover ‚Port de Ratera‘ with marvellous views and the option to hike to the summit ‚Tuc de Ratera‘. An exceptionally beautiful descent to Lake Sant Maurici awaits with a view onto the twin-peaks ‚Encantats‘, the ‚charmed poachers‘. At the end of this stage the mountain taxi takes you to the little village of Espot for your overnight stay.
Espot – Boí
In the morning short transfer back to Lake Sant Maurici, from where you reach the heart of the National Park via the ‚Portarro d'Espot‘-pass: the Aigüestortes-region is also renowned as the area of countless mountain streams shimmering in emerald-green. At the final, big waterfall the descent into the Pyrenean-village of Boí starts. The Boí-valley was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique mountain ranges and the 9 Romanesque rural churches.
Boí – Aneto
Through forests and across working alps and wide valleys you proceed towards Aneto. Via Erill de la Vall, where we highly recommend you visit the Romanesque village church ‚Santa Eulalia‘ with its six-storey belfry with a height of 23 metres, you reach the ‚Coll de Basc and the ‚Port de Gelada‘. Along old sumpter-paths you finally reach the village of Senet and continue your ascent to the village of Aneto, where you spend the night in a comfortable country house.
Aneto – Vielha
As a finale of your hiking week another highlight awaits, a sublime hiking tour along numerous mountain lakes to huts in marvellous locations, inviting you to a proper break. After another pass-crossing with fantastic long-distance views back onto the North side of the Pyrenees-main crest, the mountain taki takes you back to Vielha, the place where you started, in the evening, where you can relax and toast to the adventures experienced on your hiking week through the Pyrenees.
For the daily hiking tours a good fitness level and stamina is required. You always walk on well-marked hiking trails. The paths are easy to walk on, however can become slippery after longer periods of rain. Hence a certain level of surefootedness is prerequisite. For the longer tour on Day 3 you have the option of cutting it short.
