Cotswolds & Shakespeare

The Heart of Old England.

The scenic hills of the Cotswolds in the heart of England in the historic counties of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire reach a height of approx. 300 m. During the Middle Ages the region prospered by the woollen trade. Nowadays the recognised “Region of outstanding beauty” is famous for the original villages. Scenic views from the hills, some of the most beautiful churches of England, manor houses, neolithical stone-graves, ruins of monasteries, gothic half timbered houses in narrow alleys, colourful cottage gardens – there is no better way to explore the many details than walking. But not only the eye is spoiled for choice, you pass many traditional pubs serving local specialities and ale.

Wonderful holiday in Cotswolds
My wife and I had a wonderful holiday in the Cotswolds. I will say that it was above our expectations. Started with a day in Stratford-upon-Avon where there is a lot to see in the historic old town. The next day we were transported by car to Chipping Campden where we started our walk. The accommodations, both hotels and private, was very nice. Not very high standards, but clean and cosy and with good breakfasts and very nice hosts. The daily easy walk through woods and open landscape was beautiful, and the picturesque villages on the route was perfect for lunch (and a pint or two) at the local pubs. We had "rest" day in Winchcombe - a perfect place to spend an extra day and a visit to the beautiful Sudeley Castle. Our walk ended up in Broadway. Throughout our walk we were blessed with good "walking" weather. We had some rain showers on the way, but that was just a nice contrast. The communication with EuroHike prior to the trip was very good. The documentation and maps was also good, but some places along the track it is easy to get a bit lost. So I would recommend to download the electronic map (included) and use GPS to get you back on the right track. All in all, everything was perfect and I can highly recommend this trip and EuroHike. Both my wife and I agreed on that this was one of the best holidays we have had. We have already started to plan where we will walk next year, but I am quite sure we will take the same walk in Cotswolds again some time in the future.

So lernt man England kennen

Operation an Old Englands offenem Herzen
