In Nicosia, a city straddling the past and the present and the cultural heart of Cyprus, get ready for a fascinating week of walking. Enjoy your arrival day in a relaxed atmosphere and let the many different impressions sink in.

A short transfer will take you to the historic city center. A walking tour of Europe’s last divided capital awaits you. Discover the most important sights of the Old Town in the north and south, such as the historic Buyuk Han (Great Inn), the bustling Bandabuliya Market and the symbolic Ledra Street Checkpoint.

From your accommodation, the route first takes you along the pilgrimage trail to the Chapel of St. George. The ascent back to the village offers breathtaking views of the sea all the way to Cape Kormacit. On clear days, you can even see the southern coast of Turkey and the Troodos Mountains. Enjoy a break at the village café to have a chat with the locals.

Following the transfer to the Kozan picnic area, you’ll follow the Besparmak Trail through pristine pine forests and along gentle hills. The route then becomes a little more rugged as you pass the spectacular rock faces of this striking mountain range. After passing the ruins of the Sinai Monastery, the trail leads through the villages of Vasilia and Lapta to your accommodation in Alsancak.

To begin with, you’ll walk through the charming villages of Alsancak, Malatia, and Ilgaz. In Ilgaz, the Etel Winery invites you to take a leisurely break. From here, the trail ascends steadily until you reach the picturesque mountain village of Karmi. You can already catch a glimpse of the impressive St. Hilarion Fortress with its striking ‘Queen’s Window’, one of Cyprus’s most significant sights. Once you reach the top, be sure to set aside some time to explore the fortress.

A transfer will take you to the start of your final stage. You’ll hike along a forest track to the entrance of Buffavento Fortress, from where about 500 steps lead up to the highest point. On clear days, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view stretching from Nicosia to the Turkish southern coast. You'll then follow a donkey track uphill to the pass on the northern flank of the mountain range. From the high plateau, the route gently descends to the village of Bellapais, made famous by Lawrence Durrell’s book ‘Bitter Lemons’. The ruins of the monastery are another highlight at the end of your journey.

A short transfer will take you to the historic city centre. An individual tour of the last divided capital of Europe awaits you. Discover the most important sights of the old town in the north and south, such as the historic Büyük Han, the lively Bandabuliya market or the symbolic Checkpoint Ledras.

After the transfer to the starting point in the village of Akdeniz, you hike along the western foothills of the Besparmak Mountains towards the sea, where you can marvel at the burial grounds with over 2,000 ancient ceramic figurines. The path then heads inland and becomes increasingly greener until you reach the maronite village of Kormacit. The warm hostess awaits you there to introduce you to Maronite culture and cuisine.

From your accommodation, the first part of the route takes you along the pilgrims' path to the chapel of St George of the Seeds. The ascent back to the village offers breathtaking views of the sea as far as Cape Kormacit. On a clear day, you can even see the south coast of Turkey and the Troodos Mountains. Enjoy a break in the village café to chat with the locals.

After the transfer to the Kozan picnic area, you follow the Besparmak Trail through unspoilt pine forests and along gentle hills. The second part is a little more rugged, passing the spectacular rock faces of this striking mountain range. After the ruins of the Sinai monastery, the trail leads through the villages of Vasilia and Lapta to your accommodation in the village of Alsancak.

To begin with, you will hike through the charming villages of Alsancak, Malatia and Ilgaz. In Ilgaz, the Etel winery invites you to take a cosy break. From here, the path climbs steadily until you reach the picturesque mountain village of Karmi. You can already see the impressive fortress of St Hilarion with its striking Queen's Window, one of the most important sights in Cyprus. Once you reach the top, you should plan some time to visit the fortress.

A transfer will take you to the start of the hike. A forest road takes you to the top of the Buffavento fortress, from where around 500 steps lead to the highest point. On a clear day, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view from Nicosia to the Turkish south coast. You then climb uphill on a donkey path to the transition to the northern flank of the mountain. From the high plateau, the route continues gently downhill to the village of Bellapais, made famous by Lawrence Durrell's book ‘Bitter Limes’. The ruins of the monastery are another highlight at the end of your journey.
