The glaciers of the Bernina massif shine bright white and form one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Alps. Against this backdrop, you embark on a unique hiking tour. You start your tour in the lovely Val Poschiavo, then follow the call of Piz Bernina. A short stopover at the pass and then it's up to 3,000 m with an overnight stay at the Diavolezza mountain hut. Enjoy the sunset over the peaks of the Bernina massif. A visit to the beautiful mountain fairy on the Munt Pers is followed by a descent into the idyllic Val da Fain. After a tour through the Val Roseg and a hike over the Fuorcla Surlej pass, you end this wonderful hiking tour on the shores of Lake Sils.

The Bernina Pass marks the first highlight of your hiking adventure. From Alp Grüm, revel in the breathtaking views of the Poschiavo Valley and the majestic Piz Palü. After a restful night at Lago Bianco, embark on your journey to the renowned viewpoint at Diavolezza. As you traverse the path, you’ll encounter sparkling lakes and gaze at stunning glaciers, ultimately spending the night in a cozy traditional mountain lodge. Following a scenic train ride, your Day 4 hike leads you into the enchanting Val da Fain, before descending into the charming village of Pontresina.

In Val Roseg, you compete with the glaciers for glory. From the Fuorcla Surlej, you’ll make your way to Murtel. After that challenging climb, the cable car ride offers a much-needed breather. Spending the night in Silvaplana, by its stunning lake, is pure bliss before you tackle the final leg of your adventure. You’ll trek along the scenic trail to Sils Maria and the breathtaking Maloja Pass. If you're up for it, the hike can wrap up with an exhilarating boat ride.

01

Arrival in Poschiavo

By train to Cadera, where your hike to the Bernina Pass begins. The red trains of the Rhaetian Railway show you the way up to Alp Grüm. Views of the peaceful Val Poschiavo and the ice masses on Piz Palü accompany you from here on your way to Lago Bianco, on whose shores you spend the night.

First leisurely along the lakes of the Bernina Pass and then steeply uphill to the turquoise-blue Lej da Diavolezza. Then past the mountain hut and up to Munt Pers. According to legend, a mountain fairy once lived here who gave her name to the Diavolezza and the nearby Morteratsch valley. But you will also be enchanted by the view of the surrounding peaks and glaciers. After climbing to the summit, descend to almost 3,000 meters and spend the night in the mountain hut.

The mountain railroad saves you a few meters in altitude today and takes you back down to the valley. An idyllic path leads you into the Val da Fain, where you hike in serpentines up to Fuorcla Pischa. Countless lakes accompany you on your descent to Pontresina today. If you wish, you can shorten the tour from Alp Languard by cable car.

The gleaming white glaciers in Val Roseg make your heart beat faster. The ascent to Fuorcla Surlej will also get your pulse racing. Here, the full splendor of the Engadin spreads out before you. Unobstructed views of the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana and the proud peaks and glaciers of the Bernina group. From Murtel, take the cable car down to your destination.

The cable car takes you back to the clear mountain air. From Murtel, you follow a high-altitude trail that takes you gently down to Sils-Maria. Connoisseurs end the tour with a boat trip - the hike past Grevasalvas, the location of the first Heidi film, is no less enjoyable. The destination of your journey: the Maloja Pass.

Itinerary at a glance

Linger on the shores of the picturesque Lago Bianco with a view of the Bernina Express. Discover the majestic glaciers of Val Roseg and visit Grevasalvas, the enchanting filming location of the Heidi movie, surrounded by breathtaking nature.

The Rhaetian Railway takes you down into Val Poschiavo on a series of hairpin turns. 90 per cent of the farms in this valley are certified organic. Take some time to sample the local specialities.

By train up to Cadera, where your hike to the Bernina Pass begins. The red trains of the Rhaetian Railway will guide you up to Alp Grüm. Views of the peaceful Val Poschiavo and the glaciers on Piz Palü will accompany you from here on your way to Lago Bianco, where you’ll spend the night on its shores.

First, a leisurely walk along the lakes of the Bernina Pass, then a steep ascent up to the turquoise-blue Lej da Diavolezza. Next, past the mountain inn and up to Munt Pers. According to legend, a mountain fairy once lived here, giving her name to the Diavolezza and the nearby Morteratsch Valley. But the views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers will also enchant you. After reaching the summit, the descent takes place at an altitude of just under 3,000 meters, followed by an overnight stay at the mountain inn.

An idyllic trail leads you into the Val da Fain, where you’ll hike up the winding track to Fuorcla Pischa. Countless lakes will accompany you today on your descent to Pontresina. From Murtel, you’ll glide down by cable car to your destination for the night.

The cable car takes you back up to the crisp mountain air. From Murtel, follow a high-altitude trail that leads you gently downhill to Sils-Maria. Those looking to take it easy can round off the tour with a boat ride – though the hike past Grevasalvas, the filming location of the first Heidi movie, is just as enjoyable. The destination of your final stage: the Maloja Pass.
