Do you have questions about this tour?

This unforgettable hiking tour takes you through some of the most fascinating and little-visited landscapes in the Alps. First through the majestic Carnic Alps, whose remote valleys and peaks cast a spell over hikers. The route continues into the Friulian Dolomites, where the striking rocks and steep slopes provide an impressive backdrop. On your way, you will pass the famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo – probably the most impressive mountain massif in the Dolomites. From the Three Peaks, the tour continues into the Friulian Dolomites Nature Park, which is known for its diverse flora and fauna as well as its picturesque mountain landscapes.

Itinerary at a glance

Authentic alpine huts, crystal-clear lakes and dramatic peaks await you in both the Carnic Alps and the Dolomites. Admire the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Three Peaks and the numerous panoramic views along the way.

Gemona del Friuli, at the foot of the Julian Alps, welcomes you with Italian hospitality and a stunning natural backdrop. Take advantage of your arrival day to explore the historic old town and experience the unique charm of Friuli.

The first stage begins with a transfer to Forni Avoltri. From here, you’ll start your hike and make your way up to Malga Tuglia. A wonderful panoramic view of the Sappada basin and the majestic peaks of Peralba and Popera in the Comelico Valley will unfold before you. Your route then continues on to Cima Sappada until you finally reach Sappada, today’s destination.

A short bus ride to Cima Sappada, from where your hike takes you through forests and along alpine trails to the headwaters of the Piave. The route continues through the stunning Val Visdende, a vast valley in the Dolomites framed by imposing peaks. Meadows, woods, and spectacular views accompany you through an unspoiled landscape of exceptional beauty.

In the morning, first follow the path up to the Marmotte mountain hut. Continuing along the Crode dei Longerin, you’ll eventually reach the Passo Palombino. From here, you’ll be rewarded with a picturesque high-altitude trail offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Dolomites. On the subsequent descent to Sega Digon, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of the impressive Marmarole mountain range, Monte Antelao and Monte Popera. To conclude the stage, take the bus to Padola.

You’ll start the day with a bus ride to Sesto. From here, you’ll enter into the beautiful Fiscalina Valley and reach Lake Landro in the Landro Valley, which is set in a breathtaking location, nestled amongst the spectacular mountain scenery of the Dolomites. From here, a scenic alpine trail leads through forests, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, to the Three Peaks Hut (Rifugio Locatelli), which provides stunning panoramic views of the famous Three Peaks – a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and a striking landmark of the Dolomites.

Once you have packed your backpack with everything you need for the night, a transfer will take you to Domegge di Cadore. After crossing the Piave Bridge, your ascent begins through the wild and romantic Talagona Valley to the Rifugio Cercenà. From there, you'll continue your hike until you see the Rifugio Padova – idyllically situated with the dazzling Spalti del Toro in the background.

From the rifugio, you’ll ascend through the pristine Arade Valley, passing the Forcella Monfalcon di Forni and the remote Forcella del Cason before arriving at the secluded Marchi-Granzotto bivouac. You then head up to the panoramic Forcella Urtisei, from where you descend to the welcoming Rifugio Giaf. You return to the center of Forni di Sopra, rounding off your hiking adventure with unforgettable panoramic views.
