Hiking group descending a stony path above a wooded bay on the Lycian Way

Turkey is frequently linked with beach getaways and nightlife excursions - yet, this diverse country is also an ideal destination for hiking. Where goods were once carried along trade routes, you'll now discover one of the most stunning long-distance hiking trails. The Lycian Way seamlessly blends breathtaking landscapes with verdant vegetation, cultural landmarks, and picturesque villages. The warmth of Turkish hospitality and delectable cuisine further enhance the experience.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Antalya's old town before embarking on the initial leg towards Cirali. On day 3, a unique spectacle and rare natural phenomenon await you: the Chimaera fires, flames that spontaneously erupt from the crevices in the rocks. Continue onwards to Olympos, where the imposing acropolis and remnants of ancient temples await, until finally reaching the bay of Adrasan.

During the next stages, the dreamy coastal landscape alternates with ancient remnants. The ruins at Istlada or Apollonia offer insights into the region's history. Before taking the bus back to Antalya, you'll also visit the Lycian rock tombs at Myra and the Basilica of Saint Nicholas.

  • Beautiful beaches and bays: You won't be short of opportunities for swimming fun in Turkey. The first stage already takes you to Maden Bay, surrounded by trees and offering a wonderful view of the turquoise seawater. Equally beautiful is the bay of Adrasan.
  • The eternal flames of Chimaera: Homer described the Chimera as a three-headed monster that spread terror and destruction with flames. Although not quite as mystical, but equally fascinating, is the actual explanation, as over time, the flames were "unmasked" as a geological phenomenon. Natural gas seeps out of the rock and ignites itself when mixed with oxygen.
  • Sightseeing in Antalya: It's no wonder that Antalya is one of the most popular destinations in Turkey. The lively city has a lot to offer, whether it's restaurants, boutiques, or bars. The old town is home to many interesting cultural sites, while the harbor invites you to take a leisurely stroll.

The route has been designed by our team to ensure that you can fully enjoy the many cultural and scenic attractions of the region. Eurohike provides you with a dedicated contact person, we transport your luggage from accommodation to accommodation, and we also take care of your transfers. In short: Enjoy your hiking vacation and the many impressions along the Lycian Way!

In Mediterranean regions, hiking blends wonderfully with beaches, the sea, and culinary delights. Take a look at our hiking tours in Italy, the hiking destination Croatia, or our most beautiful hiking tours in Greece.

Itinerary at a glance

Ancient cities rich in history and fantastic views of the coastal landscape will enchant you on this very special hike. Plan a sightseeing tour in Antalya and enjoy the flair of the port city and the delicious Turkish cuisine.

Arrival in Antalya and transfer to the picturesque bay of Adrasan, where you will spend the next two nights. We recommend you seize the day and go for a leisurely walk or for a swim in the sea.

One of the most stunning hiking segment of the Lycian Path awaits you today, immediately on your first hiking day. Enjoy magnificent views from the top of the Gelidonya Lighthouse onto the Chelidonia Islands. The route leads you - with a phenomenal view onto the blue glittering sea - through pine forests back to Adrasan.

After a short walk you reach the access point to the Lycian Path. Walk along the old trading route, through pine and arbutus forests all the way to the col at 700 metres in altitude. After that the path ascends on the other side and leads through a dense laurel forest down to Olympos. We highly recommend a stroll through the ruins of Olympos.

Initially you walk along the lovely coast and through dense pinewoods towards the idyllic bay Maden (stop for a swim) with a view onto the snow-capped Tahtali Dagi. After that you continue along quiet paths into the hinterland and through fragrant pine forests to Ulupinar, the finish of today’s hike. Transfer to Beycik.

In the shadow of Mount Olympus you ascend to the highest point of this hiking week, the Tahtali pass on 1,850 meters in altitude. A remote path snakes all the way up to the pass of Tahtali, where giant cedar trees thrive. On your trail you can enjoy fascinating views onto the valley and the sea. The hiking tour ends in the mountain village Yayl Kuzdere, then a short transfer to Ovacik.

After a short transfer to the ancient city Kitanaura, you walk in the hinterland past plantations, along gurgling streams and through idyllic mountain villages. This tour does not take you along the official Lycian Path, it is however, due to the enchanting mountain villages you come across along the way, a must. Throughout you will be accompanied along the way by glorious long-distance views onto the peaks of the Taurus Mountains.

For the finale of your week of hiking, once again an unforgettable route awaits. First you pass the Göynük Alp and farms, until the path leads you into the Göynük ravine. Once you have crossed the river, you start a forest walk via an old trading trail, which leads you over the pass and down to the end of the ravine. Trip to Antalya, enjoy the busy goings-on in this holiday metropolis, located on the Mediterranean coast.
