Stone stele with shell signpost next to a hiking trail on the Way of St. James

The last hundred kilometres of the Way of St. James are meant to be the “classic” section of the popular pilgrims route, which leads through half of Europe. Along this part you cross Galicia, the green and westernmost province of Spain. A diversified landscape, pleasant temperatures and friendly people are accompanying you. And the Galician cuisine is pampering you with regional delicacies from the countryside and sea. Enjoy it with a glass of local Ribero white wine. Take your time, to visit the biggest cultural places of interest. The goal of all pilgrims, Santiago de Compostela, together with its outstanding cathedral is also the last station and highlight of your journey. While eating a “Tarta de Santiago” (cake with almonds) you look back on your walking week along the Camino Francés.

In eight days experience the green and westernmost province in Spain. Here in Galicia are the final one hundred kilometres of what is probably the most famous pilgrimage route in Europe. The Camino de Santiago inspires numerous hikers every year and is considered a particularly active experience. Starting from Sarria, the route takes you first to the pilgrimage site of Portomarín and then to Palas de Rei the following day. On the next day of your hiking tour to Arzúa, numerous historic towns with a long-standing history of pilgrimage await you. When hiking to O Pino or O Pedrouzo, you are getting closer and closer to the highlight of your hiking tour, the pilgrimage city and at the same time the capital of Galicia: Santiago de Compostela. Now it is only a few kilometres to your final day finish. You follow the path to the city of the apostles and to the Plaza del Obradoiro with the famous cathedral. On the final day of your hiking holiday you have the opportunity to visit the historic old town and the cathedral of Santiago. An unforgettable end to this pilgrimage.

  • This is what Galicia tastes like: On the fourth day of your hiking holiday, you can try a typical Galician speciality in Melide. The “pulpo feira” (cooked squid) is particularly tasty here.
  • Pilgrim city with history: In Santiago de Compostela, the final stage of your hiking holiday, you have the opportunity to visit the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and cathedral. Did you know that more than 75,000 pilgrims travel to this special place every year?
  • Great hiking climate: Our hiking holiday on the Camino de Santiago can be booked from April to October. During this time you find a marvellous hiking climate in this region.

This hiking holiday on the Way of St. James in Spain is assigned our level of hiking ‘Walking’. You experience the final one hundred kilometres of the famous pilgrimage route on hilly hiking paths and quiet side streets. The daily stages are scheduled to last around 4 to 6 hours and we recommend a basic fitness level and stamina for this tour.
