Round trip Feldbach
Along diverse forest- and meadow paths to Kornberg, where you get to visit the beautiful palace and the renowned chocolate factory Zotter. Onwards to the impressive Riegersburg castle, an initial highlight of your hiking week. Initially mentioned in a document in 1122, it was considered the ‚strongest fortress of Christianity‘ for a long time. The route leads through the Grazbach-valley along a ridge with great views via Mount Konixberg back to Feldbach.
Feldbach – Neustift
After a short transfer you enjoy a visit to a small dairy, enjoy tasting the excellent home-made local cheese. Today you mainly walk through extensive oak- and beech forests to Kapfenstein palace. Here the ‚Geotrail‘ offers lots of informative demo boards with regards to the geological history of the region. Your Day Finish is Neustift, an original village near the border to Slovenia.
Neustift – Klöch
You follow the borderland-hiking path through nearly unspoilt nature headed for the Three-Country Point. Through fragrant elder plantations, rustic forests and blooming meadows you reach St. Anna am Aigen. The entire Styrian wine store ‚gesamtsteirische Vinothek‘ invites to an abundant tasting of local delicacies. You continue on remote tollkeeper paths along the border stream Kutschenitza all the way to Klöch.
Klöch – Straden
Today a truly ‚royal‘ hiking tour awaits: you walk along comfortable paths through beech forests up Mount Königsberg. Through a basalt-gap you get to observe the interior of a volcano. Through vineyards situated around Tieschen, numerous wine taverns ‚Buschenschänken‘ en route invite for a thorough break, before you tackle the final few kilometres to Straden.
A short transfer takes you back to the highest point of Mount Rosenberges, the so-called ‚Umschaukreuz‘. From there you proceed on nice paths to the Stradener Kogel-lookout. This lookout tower offers spectacular views into the distance all the way to Croatia and Hungary. Walking through the so-called ‚Devil’s Ditch‘ (Teufelsgraben) you reach the „Waltrafelsen“ and proceed to Bad Gleichenberg, always accompanied by the impressive views over the vineyards to Kapfenstein palace.
Your final hiking tour leads you once more idyllicly along the railway-path, this railway line is lovingly called the ‚Jungle Express‘ by the localsI, back to Feldbach. If you do not fancy walking the entire route today, you have the option to shorten the tour by train. Your holiday ends at your starting point, the beautiful town of Feldbach.
You walk on well-maintained hiking- and forest paths and in parts on asphalted side roads. Technically the hikes are easy and can be tackled without any difficulties, for tours with a walking time up to 5 hours a good basic fitness level is sufficient.
