Eurobike Cycle Tours - the story of its origins

The two founders of the company, Herbert Würtinger and Walter Schmid, got to know each other easily in life and, after a few years of experience in the field of cycle travel and in other industries, considered gaining a foothold in cycle tourism at the beginning of 1991. Before his career as a successful businessman, Herbert Würtinger worked as a teacher and taught Walter Schmid and his brothers in Schärding. But where exactly was the first important milestone for the founding of Eurobike set? During an outing to Innsbruck with the company they both worked, the idea of founding a company that organises cycle tours was born. Only a short time later, the foundation stone for today's company was laid and in the following year, the first Eurobike catalogue inspired numerous active holidaymakers to go on a cycle tour. The Ten Lakes Tour enjoyed great popularity among guests as the first own tour. In 1993, the decision was made to found a separate company – thus Eurofun Touristik was founded with the "Eurobike" cycling brand.

Discover Europe's most beautiful cycle routes with Eurobike

Bike infront of the Arena in Verona

From the very beginning, Eurobike has strived to offer individual cycle tours throughout Europe that not only guarantee the highest holiday quality, but also include unique routes. Cycling travellers should discover Europe entirely at their own individual pace, get to know the most beautiful places on and off the cycle paths and not forego any comfort. Attention is paid to this quality along the entire service chain: from the friendly customer advice, the personal support on-site, the detailed travel documents, the reliable luggage transfer and the cosy feel-good accommodation. In terms of cuisine, too, care is always taken to ensure that cycle tour guests are well catered for in the evening after an active day in nature. Eurobike now offers around 434 cycle tours - all over Europe. Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and many other destinations are diligently explored from the bike saddle. In addition to the cycle tour classics, other active travel offers have also been included in the programme, such as bike & boat tours, cycling holidays for families, short holidays by bike, tours based in one hotel, sporty cycling holidays and the popular cycle tours with charm. So there is guaranteed to be something suitable for every target group.

Eurohike as a new brand for walking holidays throughout Europe

The desire for hiking has also grown in recent years and more and more people hungry for exercise are drawn out into the relaxing nature. Exactly this kind of relaxing exercise using one's own physical strength could now also be offered in the form of multi-day hiking tours. This is how the Eurohike Walking Holidays brand came into being in 2004. From mountains, lakes, rivers, alpine pastures to coasts or islands - all this and much more can be experienced on the varied hiking tours throughout Europe. Hiking tours for families, hiking with dogs and hiking with charm provide even more variety and that special extra of comfort. Hiking holidays in Europe can be so wonderfully varied.

Strong together

Sustainable success requires top-motivated staff and a team that sticks together in every situation. From the very beginning, a group of five employees stood by the side of the founders, pooling their collective knowledge to create a wealth of experience. Today, Eurobike and Eurohike have around 50 employees who ensure perfectly organised cycling and hiking tours run every year. Joint activities, company outings, numerous benefits and a good corporate culture promote individual satisfaction and respectful, appreciative cooperation. It is precisely this cohesion and sustainable, mutual support that are also the cornerstone of a functioning company and the long-standing existence of Eurobike and Eurohike.
