Bath city Payerbach is start of the first mountain train of the world (Semmeringbahn), nowadays declared UNESCO Heritage Site.
2nd Day: Round trip Semmeringbahn
Take the train to well known resort Semmering. The Ghega Train belongs to UNESCO heritage. Walk on the train track and see stunning viaducts in lovely countryside. Overnight in Payerbach, enjoy the flair of “Sommerfrische” from the old days.
Walking time: approx. 5 to 6.5 hrs

3rd Day: Round trip balcony path Rax Plateau
Take the cable car up to the Rax plateau on 2.200 m. Walk from cabin to cabin there are a number of options for every desire. Down to Payerbach. Walking time: approx. 4 to 5.5 hrs.
4th Day: Payerbach – Puchberg
A rather demanding climb up to Waldburg-Anger cabin is followed by a comfortable walk over the high alpine pasture Bodenwiese with cattle of the local farmers. Downhill on good forest lanes past hamlets to the next valley to Puchberg. Enjoy stunning views of Schneeberg in front of you and Rax in your back. You could be in the midst of the highest Alpine regions. Walking time: approx. 6 to 7 hrs.
5th Day: Round trip Schneeberg
Famous Schneebergbahn takes you to an altitude of 2.00 m. The summit is not far and the views of the Alps is marvellous. Do enjoy the sweet pastries served at the middle station – Buchteln are a delicious Austrian speciality! Overnight in Puchberg. Walking time: approx. 4 hrs.
6th Day: Round Trip Hohe Wand
Walk through forests on sometimes steep trails up to Hohe Wand, a rock wall that is very popular with climbers. But not to worry, you take a more comfortable ascent with views as far as Vienna. Return via the ridge, past farms and hamlets to Puchberg.
Walking time: approx. 6 hrs.

Explore the Viennese Alps.
Region Rax, Semmering and Schneeberg has the longest tradition as tourism area in Austria. Traditionally visited by the Viennese during hot summer months and inspired retreat of artists this area built up a great reputation during the 19th century. Technical pioneering was the Semmering train and is firmly rooted into the identity of this region. The declaration to UNESCO heritage revived the dormant region. The three Viennese mountains with summits of about 2.000 m are well developed by countless walking-, mountain- and climbing trails of the pioneer time of mountaineering.Dates

Chainging Theme- and balcony paths. Greater gradients are managed by cable car or train. Some short but steep climbs included. You walk on plateaus with alpine character, therefore a good fitness level and sure footedness are required.Map

How to get there/parking- By train via Vienna to Payerbach (approx. 1.5 hrs) and a few minutes to the starting hotel.
- Parking: free hotel car park, no reservation required.
- Return by train from Puchberg via Wiener Neustadt to Payerbach, duration: approx. 1.5 hrs, included into the price. If the train transfer is not required: reduction by € 7 per person. Please let us know when booking.
