Some of you may know the city of Berchtesgaden where you find the Eagles nest and also a very interesting information centre about the time and history of “Obersalzberg – Hitlers mountain resort”.
Day 2 – Walking in the national park of Berchtesgaden to the Seisenberg gorge and on to the village of Weißbach
Wellcome and introduction of the tour in the starting hotel.
Transfer to the entrance of the national park of Berchtesgaden where the tour starts. A beautiful trail leads you up to the former miners hut and on over an alpine pasture down to the Saalach valley. In between you will pass the impressing Seisenberg gorge.
Day 3 – Walking tour up to an alpine pasture in the Grass Mountains. Downwarts to the mountain village of Dienten
Transfer to the edge of the Grass Mountain where you will start your tour up to the alpine pastures. Wonderful view to the alps and glaciers and maybe to the lake “Zellersee”. Passing mountain huts you will walk downwards to the village of Dienten.
Day 4 – From hut to hut to the mountain hotel Arthurhaus
One of the most beautiful alpine pasture hiking tours in Austria. Walking along the steep walls of the Hochkönig you will trek from mountain hut to mountain hut over alpine pastures. A pastoral idyll as if freshly painted for a picture book.
Day 5 – Restday around Arthurhaus
Take the bus down to the valley or just relax in the hotel.
Day 6 – From the hotel up to the romantic “Mitterfeld” mountain hut and downwards to the Salzach valley.
In the morning you will walk up to the Mitterfeldalm with a splendid view to the summit of the Hochkönig. Gently down along the old miners path to the Salzach valley, where you will see the fantastic fortress of “Hohenwerfen”. It’ s up to you to walk up the castle hill and see the bird-of-prey flight demonstrations, the collection of weapons, … Afterwards by train to Golling.
Day 7 – From Salzburg to Bavaria: The frontier trail.
You will walk up to the peak of the Jenner with panoramic view of the whole tour. A beautiful trail leads you through the former arch bishop hunting valley to the “wall”. Steep stone walls left, right and in front of you. You may not see the trail at first but it’s going up and up to the alpine pastures and to the frontier of Austria and Germany. Again beautiful scenery and a very comfortable ride down into the valley by the cable car. When you look right, who will see the “eagles nest”.
Day 8 – Individual departure or extended stay on the lake Königssee
There are public busses (going around the mountains) and you may use them to go to the next hotel (rainy days).
Airport Munich or Salzburg.
Take the train from Munich or Salzburg to the railway station Berchtesgaden and a local taxi to the hotel.

Idyllic, mystic and singular the blue-green lake Königssee is imbedded into grand mountain scenery. The mountains are very high, but there are beautiful crosses to the next valleys. To see the sun rising over the steep rocks of the Stony Sea is really worth the effort. Demanding walking days with tours of 3 to 6 hours to walk. You are crossing from valley to valley by using former salt trail or walking over beautiful alpine pastures. Your trails are running close to the edge of the mountain walls and you will have spectacular views. You will walk in low alpine area and a good fitness and equipment is expected.There are public busses (going around the mountains) and you may use them to go to the next hotel (rainy days).
