Sheer nature awaits, fragrant lemon and orange groves, birds singing and the occasional bell-jingling from grazing goats and sheep. Our hiking tour in the Algarve, 8 days, promises an enjoyable active holiday. Your six daily stages will take you from Tavira through the unspoiled natural landscapes in southern Portugal. Explore the village of Cacela Velha, the fishing village of Cabanas, the town of Villa Real de Santo António, the fishing village of Fuzeta and the wonderful Ilha de Tavira on the beautiful circular hikes. The circular hike ‘Ceramica’ on the third day of your hiking holiday is particularly interesting, because this route takes you into the fertile valley, which is known for the production of traditional ceramic tiles.   • City strolls in Tavira: The fourth rest day is ideal for a city tour of Tavira. Enjoy the maritime flair in the idyllic coastal town. Our tip: watch flamingos in the wild in the Ria Formosa Nature Park.
  • In the rhythm of the south: On your circular hike through the lively fishing village of Fuzera on the sixth day of your trip, you will experience the typical southern flair of Portugal. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the village in one of the cafes in the village square.
  • Hiking break on the beach: On the last day of your hiking holiday, enjoy the island of Tavira, also called Ilha de Tavira, the perfect place to really relax on the beautiful sandy beach.

On our hiking tour Algarve, 8 days, you will perfectly enjoy hiking because the daily stages of 3 to 4.5 hours can be mastered with a basic level of fitness. After the healthy exercise during the day you can look forward to a relaxing evening and enjoy the wonderful cuisine of Portugal. Arrival at Faro and transfer to Tavira. This little coastal town has a very long and beautiful sandy beach to offer, the town centre is full of interesting buildings and is home of a fish market, which we highly recommend.

A comfortable walk along the coast, starting in the old village of Velha, takes you along deserted paths to the charming fishing village Cabanas. There fishing is still in full swing and an ideal lunch place to enjoy observing the busy life on the water. Through several salt pans, in which numerous wild animals dwell, you walk back to Tavira.

Today’s tour takes you into a fertile village, which is well-known for the production of traditional ceramic tiles. You walk across small cultivation areas for various types of vegetables, olive-, carob-, almonds- and fig trees. Continue through lush lemon and orange groves, as well as along fragrant flowering meadows.

A perfect opportunity to relax in the hotel or to visit the sights of Tavira. A very special experience is the bird watching in the moor and swamp area of the Reserva Natural do Sapal, which is famous for its flamingoes.

This idyllic walk leads you along the coast to the Spanish border. From Altura you walk through pine forests on narrow snaking paths and after that on deserted unspoilt beaches to the Rio Guadiana estuary, the river which separates Portugal from Spain. Your Day 5 Finish is the charming town Vila Real de Santo António, which offers plenty of interesting cultural history and architecture.

To the West of Tavira you find the fishing village Fuzeta, the starting point of your tour. You walk through salt pans, past little villages with colorful houses and gardens. We recommend you enjoy a nice break in one of the little cafés along the banks of the quietly flowing river Ria.

For the finale of your week of walking along the Algarve, you discover the island of Tavira, home of the region’s most beautiful sandy beaches and the extensive nature reserve Ria Formosa. It is true holiday bliss to amble along these beaches and marvel at little fishing villages like Santa Luzia, where countless fishing boats are bobbing gently up and down on the waters of the canal.

Arrival at Faro and transfer to Tavira. The small coastal town offers an old town worth seeing with numerous interesting buildings, cozy cafes, and a fish market, which you should definitely visit. You can also walk across the Roman Bridge and stroll along the Gilao River.

Continue through lush lemon and orange groves, as well as along fragrant flowering meadows. If you like, take a detour to the hidden Pego do Inferno waterfall before hiking back to Tavira.

An ideal opportunity to relax at the hotel and see the sights of Tavira. Climb up to the beautiful church of Santa Maria do Castelo and visit the fortress with its wonderful flower garden. Enjoy the view of the whitewashed houses and explore the alleys and many pretty chapels of the town.

This idyllic hike takes you along the coast to the Spanish border. Over dunes, through pine forests and on pristine beaches, you will hike to the mouth of the Rio Guadiana, which separates Portugal from Spain. The destination of the hike is the charming town of Vila Real de Santo António, which boasts interesting cultural history and architecture. A tranquil train ride on the Linha do Algarve regional train will bring you back to the hotel.

To the west of Tavira lies the fishing village of Fuzeta, the starting point of your hike. You will walk along salt ponds and through small villages with colorful houses and blossoming fruit groves. On the shore of the calmly flowing Ria Formosa, you will continue along the edge of the lagoon through the nature park and finally across vast fields back to the old town of Tavira.

For the finale of your week of walking along the Algarve, you discover the island of Tavira, home of the region’s most beautiful sandy beaches and the extensive nature reserve Ria Formosa. It is a real vacation pleasure to walk along these beaches, collect shells and breathe sea air. After visiting the small fishing village of Santa Luzia, walk across the bridge over the lagoon to the island. Passing the "Cemetery of the Anchors," you will walk along the beach to the northern end of the island, from where a boat will take you back to Tavira.
